The best camera is the one you have with you. Yesterday after sailing and some chowder at Brophy Brothers, Aidan and I took a walk down the breakwater that protects the harbor. The storm swell was still pretty high and the waves would hit the breakwater wall and then ricochet back out to sea. Occasionally … Read More
Out of nowhere, Alan Williams has become arguably the best big man in college basketball. I photographed Alan last week for the December 1st issue of Sports Illustrated. A UCSB senior and rising star he’s a gentle giant, power below the calm surface. Like an ocean swell that rolls calmly until the shore demands … Read More
I picked up a vintage 1965 Airstream this spring and it’s been used both as a production trailer for location shoots and as a prop on a national non-profit health campaign. For a clothing brand shoot in Colorado in mid-summer we took it from California to Denver and then took the slow roads back through the … Read More
Salt. An ancient lakebed. One of the flattest spots on earth, 30,000 acres huge. Speedweek: the quest for velocity records of every kind of vehicle you can imagine that takes place on the salty remains of Lake Bonneville.
A fun and inspiring shoot yesterday morning for Run.She.is.Beautiful – a benefit 5k/10k that takes place in Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz each year. A very pink run with over 1400 women for a good cause: this years beneficiary is Girls Inc.
The first of a series – a remarkable set of photoshoots as I had come through my own back-breaking traumatic experience just a month before this production began. I found that my near-death experience, shared, allowed some wonderful interactions while creating these portraits. Amazing individuals: Isa is a champion.

That was quick! Just in time for the final World Cup matches. Here is the video course up on Lynda –
We had the release party last night for the 2014 Solstice People Book and SOLD OUT! Granted I didn’t print hundreds but demand exceeded supply. Fortunately I’m using high quality on-demand printing so if you can’t wait you can order a book at the same price of $30 and as a bonus get a digital version … Read More

A quick shoot yesterday with some great players. Thanks Roberto and Jeff and thanks to Nico and Jeremy assisting on this very fun test.
It’s the 5th year of this personal project – a fundraiser with a book and gallery show each year. I do portraits in studio of these crazy characters before they launch up State St among tens of thousands. Hundreds of crazy costumes, all freshly made up, in costume, in character and full of adrenaline. A great … Read More
With Phase One’s IQ250 digital back and the Schneider 150mm lens – a great combo though I really prefer the feel of the Hasselblad body with the same Phase back. Either way it’s definitely a more considered pace than shooting with 35mm. I have two medium format film kits – Pentax 6×7 and Rollei 6×6 … Read More
