Today’s 5th Paddle Out hosted by Surfrider was a smaller crowd, perhaps due to the thick marine layer above but there were surfers of all ages – raising money for good causes to protect and preserve our oceans, habitats and surf breaks.  Of course there was live music, good tacos and a few words from local politicians Das Williams, Salud Carbajal and surf legend and world champion Shaun Tomson.  Booty included raffles from Patagonia, local shops, a traditional finless Hawaiian Alaia longboard “plank” from John Birchim and a basket of goodies from musician Jack Johnson.

Everyone paddled out a few hundred meters for a circle that was preceded by cavorting dolphins providing the karma for the day.

  • Wow. What an experience for everyone there. We have always supported Surfriders at their beach clean-ups but this was our first paddle out. Life changing, totally groovy spiritual people. The best teachers in the world, those who love nature. Thank you and it is worth all the hard work because you change lives and how we see the world.

Kevin, thank you for capturing this moment in 2 SBHS student’s lives. They were thrilled beyond compare, as am I with the story it tells. Maria gleeful and Summer quite uncertain. We will cherish this picture and hand it in our room. Peace out and may all your days be filled with perfect frames. Ms. B. and the Dons Net Cafe.
